it'll recommend a download for your computer so you can be sure you're not getting the wrong version

Putting out a version before the latest update would not help in this scenario. The problem is Windows Defender and not on our end.

The update in question was not flagged so harshly for about a week after coming out and only began to have serious issues later. 

Right now there are so many people asking for tech support here that I can't go through them all properly and need to copy-paste responses.

Hm, this does ring a bell as something that happened to someone else as well, but it was a while ago and iirc no one could figure out why or how it happened.

And I wouldn't be too surprised if you spotted stuff for new biomes, there's been unused patrols for new camps in the code for ages

you should be able to make an exception for the game folder so that it doesn't delete your game; there's some instruction in the most recent devlog post about this.

in future you should be able to make an exception for the game in your antivirus, or somehow bypass it. Turning off your antivirus entirely is not really advisable

Not without knowing more about the problem

what OS are you using (Windows? Mac?) and what happens when you try to download? 

check the most recent devlog post or my post further down. Probably your antivirus is falsely flagging the game

you most likely need to just redownload the game if the updater's stuck

it'll depend on what OS you're on

generally you just need to delete your old game and download again the same way you did the first time
